I don't understand why Indian commentators are having a hard time understanding the relation between these two countries. Both Azerbaijan and Turkey are secular countries, and their ties are cultural and linguistic. They speak a slight variety of the same language. This has nothing to do with religion. Iran has a significant Azerbaijani population and doesn't want a separatist movement inside its borders.

At this point, this crucial economic, energy and communication corridor would be in striking range of hostile neighbors like Syria and Lebanon.
